This Price, founded in 1972 by the ‘Circolo Culturale Silvio Spaventa Filippi’ in Potenza, has become one of the main cultural events in Italy. As its statute states this Prize ‘aims at encouraging and favouring literary, artistic and scientific productions, with particular attention to the South of Italy’.

Because of its high cultural, scientific and ethic contents, the Basilicata Literary Prize has entered the circuit of the most important cultural events in our country and has a very wide public, so that it is actually broadcast on the RAI channels.

This Prize is organised in three Sections: Narrative, Spiritual Literature and Religious Poetry, Essays. Since its XXIV edition, the Essays Section has been enlarged with two more Prizes to local scholars, in order to contribute to the spreading of historical and cultural heritage of this region.
