This Cathedral was built in 1209, over an old Early Christian Cathedral, which had been built on the site of a Greek temple. Its bell tower was built by Sarolo from Muro Lucano.
It was built again in 1253 by the architect Melchiorre from Montalbano, with an imposing bell tower.
Inside, there are a nave and two aisles, with arches and capitals.
There are also a Crucifix, of the XVI century, and some carved decorations representing the ‘Peccato Originale’ and the ‘Annunciazione’, by Sarolo from Muro Lucano.
In the apse there is a majestic wooden Crucifix, carved and painted in the XIII century. It is one of the most relevant examples of wood sculpture in the South of Italy.
