Commune in the province of Potenza
It was built in the Sarmento Valley. The existence of old walls near this village makes its origin date back to the Roman age. In mediaeval times it became a farm and was further developed when a Byzantine Convent was founded. In feudal times it belonged to the Sanseverino family and in the XVI century it was a fief of the Pignatelli.
The Parish Church has been artistically crafted and so have the remains of the Church of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli and the portals, in stone, of some Palaces, amongst them, Palazzo Valicenti.
You can leave this village to start excursions to the Carnara Mountain or to have a walk looking for mushrooms in the Capillo wood. Being part of the National Park of Pollino, this area has several organised stopping points and interesting places for excursions.
