Copper handicraft in Rivello started in the XVI century. The first workshops were opened in actual caves, called ‘Catuoi’.

A well was dug in them, where rainwater was kept, so that enough water for the copper handcraft would be available.

The raw material came from the ‘Ramiera’ situated near Nemoli: its blocks of molten copper were then worked in boilers, pots or baskets otherwise used for congeal cheese.

Later the Ramiera was shut, while the manufacturing workshops were kept.

At the beginning of the XIX century with the starting of migration some artisans moved to different areas.

The only family of artisans that still lives there is the Martino family. Now they dedicate themselves to artistic handcraft for tourists and not for private use anymore.
