Santa Margherita is situated in the neighbourhood of Melfi, at the kilometre 1 of the SS 303 towards Rapolla.
It is dealt with a rocky church dug in volcanic tuff. The church has got one central nave with four lateral chapels.
The central nave is protected by acute curve crosses, whereas the lateral chapels are protected by barrel vaults.
The church is artistically interesting for numerous frescoes loading the walls.
Many of these have got a Byzantine style, whereas other ones have got a marked western trace.
Among these frescoes particular importance occupies ‘Il Contrasto dei vivi e dei morti’, in which some researchers see the Emperor Federico II, his wife Isabella and their lawful son Corrado IV.
