Orazio (Horace) was born in Venosa in 65 B.C. Though he left his home village rather soon to go and study in Rome, he kept a sense of belonging to his origins.

He was a universal poet, who made his genius a way to convey high values and sentiments.

‘Carpe diem’ is his motto, so to work out the middle-way is how to lead a simple life, often connected to the countryside.

From his varied works the concept of an existence made of small, valuable joys rises. An existence that each man should learn to pick up and appreciate, setting himself free from the troubles linked to the agonising search for pleasure and power.

Autarkeia – to be enough for oneself – is the secret for appreciating a fleeting life in order to reach a happiness that is hold in the little things of daily life and not in a non-definite some-where-else.
