On top of San Biagio Mountain, that overlooks the Policastro Gulf, San Biagio’s Sanctuary was built. It has a Renaissance arcade with three arches, a baroque Chapel of 1619 and a marble relief of the XVIII century.
The celebrations of San Biagio last for a week, between the first and the second Sunday in May. The silver bust of this Saint, covered with a red cloth, is taken through a path to the village, where it is committed to the Mayor of the village. He takes the cloth off and shows the bust to the believers.
On the side of this Mountain that overlooks the shore, there is a Belvedere with a Statue of the Redentore, the symbol of Maratea.
This statue is 21 metres high, the width of its arms is 19 metres, its face is 3 metres long. It was made by the sculptor Bruno Innocenti, in 1963, and was set up in 1965, replacing a commemorative stone cross.
