The Duomo (Cathedral) is dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta.
It was built around 1075 by Roberto il Guiscardo or, according to other sources, in 1153 by the Norman king Gugliemo I “il Malo” (the Evil). The Norman bell tower was built by Noslo da Remerio in 1153 and is about 50 metres high.
This building was almost completely rebuilt in the XVIII century, in baroque style, except for the bell tower, that keeps its original Norman style. The inside has a cross-shaped layout, with a nave and two aisles. The nave is covered by an interesting coffered ceiling, the aisles by barrel vaults.
Inside the Duomo there are a wooden Crucifix of the XV century, several paintings and a painting on wood of the XII century, representing the ‘Madonna col Bambino fra due Angeli’.
Next to the Duomo there is the Palazzo del Vescovado (Bishop Palace). In its internal court there is a Baroque fountain.
