This Museum collects finds of several settlements in the area since prehistory, giving particular relevance to the Roman colony of Grumentum, founded in 133 B.C.

In the Museum are also some remains of big mammals that lived in the Agri Valley during the Pleistocene Age, and some ceramics of the Apennines from Moliterno and Paterno.

In the Pre-Roman section of this museum, some fragments of ceramics of the Neolithic Age are displayed, as well as some materials dating from the Iron Age and the Archaic Age. They show the passage from Classicism to Hellenism.

The Roman section documents several aspects of Grumentum, such as production, trading activities and worship. Amongst the finds of the Roman Age there is a head representing Livia, Augustus’ wife.

Nearby there is the Archaeological Park, where the main monuments of the town can be seen.
