The ‘Borgo Antico’ (old town) of mediaeval origins is a completely uninhabited ghost town.

The castle, built in the XIII century, is located on a cliff. It has preserved the original entrance portal and the tower with wonderful windows. In the town centre, the church of San Vincenzo is very beautiful and so is the church of San Nicola containing two wonderful canvases by Luca Giordano's school, portraying the Virgin Mary with the Infant and the archangel Raphael.

On the periphery, it is possible to admire the Observant Friars Minor's church of San Pietro, characterised by an inside with a nave and an aisle where a Baroque altar, a XVII century canvas and a wooden choir are housed.

The town provided the actor and director Mel Gibson with an excellent natural set for his film ‘The Passion’, which narrates Jesus Christ's last living hours.
